Hello dearest readers! Lindsey here - I just celebrated my 27th birthday on February 8th and in my mind that’s basically 30. And 30 is a big deal, right? So this year I asked my sweet, handsome husband if we could combine my birthday and Valentine’s Day and take a little overnight trip somewhere. He kinda sorta agreed so I immediately started doing some research on where we should go. If it wasn’t freezing outside I would’ve wanted to go back to our glorious glamping tent that I previously wrote about. Long story short, I stumbled upon the beautiful Mountain Rose Inn located in Woolwine, VA, near the Blue Ridge Parkway and right outside the cute town of Floyd where we love to eat and shop at one of my favorite boutiques, Hey Helen! So this was the perfect location for a little overnight getaway.
The Inn is a secluded 1901 Victorian home nestled on 100 acres of land right in the middle of beautiful trees, mountains and a scenic nearby creek. It has won the Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor in 2013 and also won the Service Excellence award in 2015. We arrived on a Wednesday afternoon and were greeted by the gracious and talented innkeepers Bruce and Valerie Cadle, a cozy fire in the den area, drinks and specialty chocolates that Matt couldn’t stay away from.
Up the beautiful staircase was the room we had selected called Daisy’s Delight. Each room has its own gas fireplace (with the original mantles!) and ours was already burning, which of course made me excited right from the doorway. Each room is also equipped with its own private en suite and satellite TV. But who really cares when you have your own fireplace at your command, right? It even made waking up and doing my make-up the next morning more pleasant. And I can’t even begin to describe how soft the sheets on our king-size bed were. So soft that they actually sell them in their online store and I’m thinking about buying a special piggy bank to start saving up to purchase some of my own!
The breakfast that was served the next morning was three courses of amazing - complete with delicious yogurt and granola, the best biscuits and gravy I’ve ever had, and for dessert (yes, dessert with breakfast!) a chocolate waffle with whipped cream and raspberries. And did I mention the delicious coffee that was served is their Mountain Rose special blend? I could definitely go for a cup right about now!
After breakfast we roamed the beautiful home and snapped some pictures of our favorite rooms before returning to our own room to wistfully say goodbye until next time. Parting with that fireplace and heading out into the cold was one of the hardest things I’ll ever do. We can’t wait to go back for another stay!
