Today marks the last of our new author intro's and I can't tell you what an exciting week it has been for me. I've had so much fun introducing my family to you and daydreaming about all the fun posts we will be developing for the blog this year. Be sure to come back on Monday as we will be sharing some fun Valentine's Day-inspired date ideas and treats for you and/or your Valentine!
It's such a treat for me to introduce our sweet mom to you all today - her name is Dawn but we like to refer to her as "Mama D!" It's really a crazy wonderful thing that she's agreed to lend a hand in writing for the blog. For one thing, my mom is one of the most creative people I know when it comes to DIY projects, home decor, and just decorating in general. She has made the Pinterest wedding boards of many girls in our church {including me and Lindsey} come to life for our special days and never ceases to amaze me with her handmade creations {just look at the beautiful cake stand she made for my wedding!}.
Having Mama D share her ideas with us is also an amazing thing because she is just now getting a slight glimmer of freedom in our life after 20+ years of homeschooling the 5 of us Hight kids. She juggles a busy yet fulfilling life as a pastor's wife, piano teacher, full-time cook, and host to the many friends and loved ones that frequent the Hight house day in and day out. No matter how busy her life gets, she is always willing to learn new things and play a part in the adventures of her crazy kids! We are so blessed to have her as a mom who supports our every endeavor and inspires us to do our best in all things. Welcome to Sweet Cayenne, Mama D!
Get to know her better!
1. Personal Profile:
- Name: Dawn Grant Hight
- Age: let's just say I'm a Baby Boomer!
- Eye color: Hazel
2. Describe your style in 3 words:
Eclectic, Casual, Mix-and-match
3. What are you wearing right now:
Skinny dark washed jeans, light grey cardigan with crocheted back, eggplant-colored ruffle-front tee, charcoal grey sweater infinity scarf and grey booties - it's cold in VA!
4. What accessory do you most often use to transform an outfit?
My go-to is most definitely a scarf! I love using infinity scarves or to pull an outfit together or wearing regular scarfs in different ways to complement my outfit. It's fun to experiment with different textures and patterns of scarves because it adds interest and dimension to any outfit!
5. What would you eat for your very last meal?
For my last meal I would love fried catfish, squash casserole and turnip greens with cornbread from Ajax Diner in Oxford, Mississippi! If it couldn't be from Ajax, just some good Southern fried catfish would do!
6. What are your top 3 goals for 2015:
- Be available for ministry opportunities in the life our church and community
- Invest in relationships through hospitality
- Be creative in using what I have to redecorate and revitalize our home while moving out things I cannot use for that project!
7. What are you most looking forward to in writing for Sweet Cayenne?
Working with my girls on Sweet Cayenne projects is what I am most looking forward to. Just taking the time to connect and share ideas for the blog is so much fun and does keep us connected as we are all so busy and running on different paths! We can encourage and challenge each other to think and to share and it makes us more thankful for the project in the end whether it was a new recipe discovered, a new outfit combination, using something old for a new purpose or a better way to present ourselves. I am also looking forward to the challenges of learning to discipline myself to write out my thoughts and ideas! This is not easy for me as I am not a good communicator with words - but I know the girls will help me!
